Background of UBot

I’ll start with a short version of my own background. I have 11 years experience in using the internet to market various products, I build websites, I run pay per click campaigns, I record videos and I use social networking… I have a few years programming experience but most importantly I’m always looking for ways to produce more work while I work less.

Very very few people realise the power that is put before them with a low cost PC and a web connection. We have a massively powerful diverse tool before us but 99% of us just don’t speak the language when it comes to communicating with our computer.

Just like you I want to make my computer work for me, I want it to answer my emails, build websites and research my competition. I want my computer to free up time so I can do other things, I don’t want to be a slave sitting in front of it 10 hours a day.

I’ve looked at a number of software packages for automating some of my general day to day tasks but none of them do everything I want, not even combinations spending $100’s per month would do everything I want. Most tools are usually quite general and ridged, if I want something automated like being able to bookmark I’ll be limited to whatever bookmarker’s the program designer has made. If a change is made the automation process I’m stuck waiting for the owner to update his software before I can work again. I hate that.

Advantages of pre-made bots:

  • Can be used very quickly.
  • No maintenance at all.

Disadvantages of pre-made bots:

  • Expensive. (but can be cost effective)
  • Relying on programmers to release updates.
  • Rigid in that we can’t tell the computer exactly what we want to do.

So on my quest to work less I’ve tried out a number of products with varied success, I’ve spent a lot of time learning how to use different bots and even coded my own from scratch.

Making your own bots from scratch using Visual Basic or C/C++ is a very long process, I really wouldn’t recommend it to anyone… nevermind if you have previous coding experience or not.

UBot uses a visual coding language which means you don’t have to know any code at all, its as simple as point and click. UBot also has a bunch of features built in making saving to files, creating random account data etc very easy.

First Impressions

I jumped right in and bought UBot after it was recommended to me by a close friend, it cost $245 but I was able to wangle a $50 discount voucher + they advertised a 30 day money back guarantee. So what’s the worst that can happen?

I watched a couple of Seths videos on bot creation, he made it look easy but my first 2-3 hours of making my own bot were a struggle. I did finish though, my firsts bot was designed to scrape google for lists of places I could drop back links.

My bot wasn’t pretty by any means, it was more of a sticky tape and string solution.. but it worked 100% in doing exactly what I wanted to do.

I decided to watch all of the UBot Training videos again and this time they made much more sense to me. I’d recommend this to anyone trying the product, watch the videos first and jump right in.

Competition

A forum I’m a member of was running a small competition to see who could make a working bot that used twitter. It took me about 1 hour to build a twitter bot from scratch, my entry was released less than 2 hours after the completion was started. I ended up winning the competition and $100 as my prize, UBot has almost paid for itself within a day so I’m more than happy.

UBot Review

Problems

UBot did have some teething problems during the first 2 weeks after it was released. Bot’s weren’t saving properly which was quickly remedied by saving multiple copies of new bots as I made them, this hasn’t been a problem for the last month so I’m sure this bug has been fixed.

UBot Support

The support for this product has been fantastic so far, Seth has been releasing tons of updates adding in new functionality almost daily. Along with the buzzing community that has taken off I’m sure this software will be around for a very long time. Sample code and UBots have been shared on the UBot site by other UBotter’s, which really helps when creating your own bots.

Others Feedback

I’ve made a few bots for people I know and they have all been impressed with the speed in which I can create bots (usually same day).

I made a quick bot for Matthew Tierney from BIG-PICTURE Ireland that will submit his posts to some bookmarking sites, he is now able to cancel a $67 per month subscription.

Damian McL (An Autoblogger) also loves his Twitter Auto Tweeter, something that would have cost him $100 per month if he was using a certain subscription service.

YourRealReview.com have written a glowing review ranking UBot better than Senuke, SEO Elite and Google sniper.

James Moore from http://ubot.blogslam.com also thinks UBot is the best thing since sliced bread. You can get some great free bots and sample codes from his site.
